Yes We Could!

They had been purposefully concentrated on making it feel as though it was a home for all of the American men and women.

After Obama was elected the 44th President of the United States, he became the first African American to hold that office. It was a moment he had worked toward and ready for. His own life experience made it possible for him to achieve and work with individuals from all walks of life, and also the color of his skin made it feasible for him to spot minorities because he’d walked in their shoes.

His parents married in Hawaii, however they did not finish up staying together. Barack’s father ultimately returned to his homeland in Africa, also Barack remained in the states with his own mother. His mother later married an undercover, and the small family ended up living in Indonesia for many years. That experience made it possible for Barack to personally watch poverty, folks begging for basic essentials, and passing.

It was while he was in Indonesia he recalls pondering Rrce for the first time. This came about because he watched magazine ads targeted to people of colour, advertising mediums to lighten skin color as a desirable item. He had never really considered the color of the skin before or what it meant. This could be something he would continue to think about during his adolescence as he attempted to determine his identity and find a spot where he felt that he fit in. What did it mean to be black, and did he identify with black culture–or white civilization?

All these factors: his race and life experiences–which range from witnessing poverty firsthand to graduating from Harvard Law School with honors–really prepared him for the work that lay ahead. Because he’d wide-ranging actual life encounter, he had a unique ability to connect with individuals in a variety of circumstances, and he had been enthusiastic about making life easier for others through working together. And when he spoke at the Democratic Convention in Boston in 2004, he highlighted that we are not the labels which divide us instead, we’re fellow Americans residing in the United States of America.

While you can say several things about Obama, folks occasionally Remark on his decorum–the way he appears to remain trendy, level-headed, and serene whatever the circumstance. His reply to this observation? “I am somebody who never believes the hype when things are going good, and does not despair when things do not work out your way.” Isn’t that sound advice for each of us as we browse the ups and downs which are an inevitable part of life?

In the wake of Donald Trump’s election, the country was in an uproar that exposed nasty bias, misogyny, and racial discrimination. When asked if he felt as though this signaled a step back from all the progress made in the last several years, he stated he didn’t feel like that. And he then concluded that thought by saying this: “The struggle to be vigilant on behalf of kindness and courtesy and tolerance and fairness and equality — that is a day-to-day thing that every one of us are responsible for.” As we strive to dwell those traits in our individual lives, we invite greater compassion and love into the world.
