12 Jan Wisdom from Michael Jordan
When you talk about basketball greats, Michael Jordan was possibly the best of time. Anyone that has seen what he could do with a basketball can’t help but be in awe of his talent and ability. Nevertheless, it was not something that only happened. While he’s definitely a sports superstar, he also didn’t get that reputation by coming out and playing an ordinary game of ball.
When you learn about a individual, you have the chance to learn what philosophies they adopt, and Michael isn’t any exclusion. While one can glean many life lessons from his narrative, we have chosen to concentrate on four.
First, concentrate on the love of this game. When he was asked what advice he would give to parents that had kids playing ball, he responded by just stating, “Let them just enjoy the game.” If your kid has a love of the game, that will fuel their desire to keep playing. As they perform frequently, they’ll learn and improve. Allowing them to follow what they’re passionate about is a natural way for them to advance and become better because they pursue the things they enjoy.
Secondly, learn from the setbacks. He didn’t become Michael Jordan without putting in the time to hone his abilities. In fact, he tried out for the varsity basketball team as a sophomore in high school and did not make it. He had been devastated, but received sage advice from his mom: “Use that power to prove to your mentor and to your peers and your classmates that they made a mistake” And he did. Later on, Phil Jackson, who coached Jordan for many seasons, talked about Michael’s dedication to rising in the face of challenges. He talked about how Jordan wasn’t a terrific offensive shooter in the beginning of his career, and that his defense wasn’t the most powerful aspect of his game, either. But that did not get Michael down. Rather, Jordan recognized his flaws and decided he would make them his powerful points. And that is exactly what he did.
Third, be a favorable influence. One of the touching moments in the documentary “Michael Jordan to the Max” is when he talks about his father. He stated, “Sometimes [in a game] I will see a dad and son, and sometimes I wonder if they understand how much I’d love to be them.” His father was a powerful role model for him a prominent figure in his lifetime. And when his dad died, Jordan said he viewed it as a blessing. He reflected, “I was lucky that he was there when I needed him, that he could influence my life to check at situations that I utilize to help make my decisions for this day. Some kids never have that. Sure, I’d love to have him now, but folks are put on this earth for a reason, and you also use the time that you’re here. You never know when that is gonna be removed from you; that is 1 thing he taught me. But while they’re here, they ought to make an effect on a person’s life, and he made an impact on my life.”
And Finally, work hard. When he had been working on his baseball career (which was fairly short-lived), Sports Illustrated said he had been an embarrassment to the game. But he worked hard at the game. He had been the first to arrive every morning, and the last to depart at night, devoted to improving his gift. And this drive, endurance and focus are characteristics that define him.
Those People who are Improving children would like to instill these qualities into our youth, regardless of whether they ever play in a professional league. Youth sports are a great way that children can learn the same classes: love the sport, learn from the reverses, be an influence for good, and also work hard. And then? Well, let everything else fall into place.
