Black History Tour

Day One
The first stop on today’s journey will be a coffee stop in Corsicana. You will stop for lunch in Durant, OK, and for coffee in Muskogee, OK, before arriving at your destination for the first night: Joplin, MO.

Day Two
After breakfast, depart Joplin and head for St. Louis and the famous Gateway Arch. We will have lunch and a tram ride up the Arch. Overnight tonight in Richmond, IN. Coffee stop in Terre Haute, IN.

Day Three
After breakfast, travel for a short ride to Dearborn, MI, and the home of the Henry Ford Museum. Your tickets for the museum include Greenfield Village and the all-day train pass so you will have time to enjoy the African-American Theme Itinerary, have lunch inside the village, and enjoy some souvenir shopping. The park closes at 5:00 PM, so dinner will be at a restaurant outside the park and overnight in Taylor, MI.

Day Four
Tour Detroit with a step-on guide including the former studios of Motown, now known as Hitsville U.S.A. Then after lunch you will drive to Windsor, ON. Windsor was the final destination of thousands of slaves that fled the plantations. Overnight in Windsor.

Day Five
After breakfast, travel to Sandwich Baptist Church then visit Dresden the site of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, the home of Josiah Henderson, a former slave immortalized by Harriet Beecher Stowe in her book against slavery. Henderson established businesses and a school on the 200-acre settlement. Before leaving this historical site you will have lunch and travel to Niagara Falls, where you will overnight.

Day Six
Meet your step-on guide for a tour of Niagara Falls, and after lunch you will experience the Falls up close with a ride on the Maid of the Mist. Then tonight you can enjoy some free time, possible at the Casino. Overnight in Niagara Falls.

Day Seven
After breakfast meet your step-on guide for a tour of Toronto, including the CNN Tower, Casa Loma, St. Lawrence Market, and Eaton Centre. Return to Niagara Falls for your final overnight in Canada.

Day Eight
Head south through parts of New York and Pennsylvania before reaching Beckley, WV, your destination for tonight. You will have a coffee break in Erie, PA, lunch in Pittsburg, an afternoon break in Clarksburg, WV, before reaching your hotel in Beckley.

Day Nine
After breakfast continue your route to Atlanta, GA. Enjoy the beauty of the Appalachian Mountains as you cross West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina. Coffee break in Wytheville, VA, a lunch stop in Charlotte, NC, an afternoon break in Greenville, SC before arriving in Atlanta.

Day Ten
After breakfast tour of Atlanta beginning with the CNN Studio tour and ending with the MLK National Historic Tour. Overnight in Atlanta.

Day Eleven
Travel to Mobile, AL, lunch and a tour of Montgomery that follows the path of the Civil Rights history. Union Station, Rosa Parks Museum, Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, and the Civil Rights Memorial. Overnight in Mobile.

Day Twelve
Final travel day to Houston. Lunch break in Baton Rouge and a coffee break near Lake Charles before arriving at the terminal in Houston.
