29 Dec Family Excitement in Fall
When you hear the word fall, what comes to mind? According to where you live, you possibly think of different things. We commonly start cooking warmer meals, and curling up with a good book sounds like just the ticket. We remove our Halloween decorations and turn our front yards into spooky displays. We drop in orchard stands and buy fresh produce.
Fall is also a great time for gathering with extended family for numbers of fun activities and traditions, and if you want to get the whole clan together for an activity, listed below are some ideas you might consider:
Hikes to enjoy the colors. When October rolls around, there’s nothing quite like getting up into the mountains to experience nature’s colors. Something about the crisp air and amazing surroundings is invigorating.
Run a race together. Whether you decide to run a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning or a Halloween Half, it is enjoyable to work toward a goal together and then enjoy the race.
Light a fire and read a good book together. When the nights get cooler and it is dark earlier, it’s nice to make it relaxing inside by building a fire and reading aloud with your people.
Make caramel apples. Along with carving pumpkins, making caramel apples is a quintessential fall activity. Fresh orchard apples, caramels, and Popsicle sticks provide a delicious treat.
Football games. Ummmm … cuz what says fall quite like football? Having everyone over for a BBQ while watching a game is a classic American pastime and one you don’t want to skip out on.
Pumpkin carving. There’s nothing like having all the kids together to carve faces in jack o’ lanterns. It’s always fun-filled to see what kids think of, whether they select something friendly, funny, or creepy.
Apple picking. It’s pretty wonderful to go as a crew to pick pears, apples or peaches. And hey … you can always do some canning and fill the pantry shelves so you can indulge in the fruit throughout the winter, too.
Family pictures. In prep for the coming Yuletide season, families commonly have pictures taken. It’s always entertaining to find just the right location and get a picture with the entire family, including any new additions since the last photo.
Corn maze or haunted houses. There’s nothing quite like going for some spooks in the month of October. Run past chainsaw holders and get startled by ghosts as you make your way through haunted walls and mazes.
Thanksgiving. Coming together to enjoy a yummy meal and eat your family’s favorite holiday dishes is comforting and charming. Family, familiarity, and friendships are a lovely thing to rejoice each fall.
Halloween parties. Bobbing for apples, cake walks, bingo, pumpkin carving, and coloring sheets are all exciting ways for the kids in the family to enjoy the season.
Trick-or-treating. Make it a family affair! Have everyone over for a scrumptious evening meal, get the kids in costume, and go out to spend the evening getting some treats … and maybe some tricks, too!
Hay rides. Why not go for a good, old-fashioned hay ride, complete with donuts and apple cider when it’s done?
Have a chili and cornbread cook off. What is it about chili that makes it look like a fall meal? Hold a good-natured competition, have some judges, and see which chili is rated best.
Annual hunting adventure. Many families appreciate hunting together. Getting a tag, camping, hiking through the hills, and bringing home game is a fun pastime that has brought families together through time.
In certain cases when the family gathers, it can be hard to keep everyone together (families start extending when children marry and grandchildren come along). For whatever fun is on the calendar for your family this fall, we can take care of the transportation so everybody can ride together. Our coaches can carry up to 57 passengers, so we should have you covered! If we can help facilitate your family’s fun this fall, don’t be reluctant to call us!
